Hunders of police officers have converged on Gaffney after five people have been killed with in a week.
Of the number killed are Hazel Linder, 83, and her daughter Gena Linder Parker, 50. Linder has a sister, Mary Ellen Griffin, who lives in Pomaria.
Gena Parker was also the wife of Newberry College volunteer football coach Scott Parker, who also coaches for Ninety Six.
Also killed were peach farmer Kline Cash, 63, and Stephen Tyler and his daughter, Abby Leigh Tyler, 15.
The killings all occured within a short distance of each other.
More than 100 officers from across the state have converged in Gaffney to search for the killer and rewards are being announced for his arrest as the five shootings make national news.
The Sheriff’s Office sent three school resource officer's to assist in Gaffney “They have year around school in the elementary schools there. They asked if we could spare some SRO's to help them so theirs could assist in the investigation,” said Sheriff Lee Foster. “Cherokee County will foot the bill for their being there. We are currently on hiatus from school, so these officers are assigned to serving papers and doing special assignments. There should not be any costs to Newberry County. Also in some way if it helps findthe killer that is very mobile and stop the madness it is worth it.” The killer is described as a white man driving a 1991 to 1994 faded silver Ford Explorer. He is said to have salt and pepper hair and just over six feet tall.
