Area all-stars dominate weekend play

Newberry County’s all-star teams were successful in the weekend Dixie Youth baseball tournaments.



The “O” Zone

The Mid-Carolina “O” Zone All-Stars, ages 12 and under, defeated Upper Abbeville County 7-0 Friday night for the district playoffs in Little Mountain.

Mid-Carolina pitcher Mackenzie Flemon pitched a no-hitter, striking out 14.

Ryan Livingston was 2 for 3 with two doubles and Flemon hit a home run.

The Mid-Carolina “O” Zone All-Stars, made up of players from Prosperity, Little Mountain, Whitmire and Pomaria, will face Abbeville tonight in a double-elimination tournament to see which team advances to the state. Game time is at 7 p.m. at Lindler Field in Little Mountain tonight and tournament play will continue at 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday night if needed.

The Minors

The Mid-Carolina Minors All-Stars shut out Saluda Saturday 10-0 after beating Clinton 12-3 Friday night in a sub-district tournament.

The 10-and-under Mid-Carolina team was led by Corey Stone who went 4 for 5 with 2 walks against no strikeouts and 5 RBI’s. Cade Ruff went 3 for 5 with 2 walks against no strikeouts and both Malik Pearson and Preston Farmer both went 3 for 6.

Mid-Carolina moves on to the district tournament in Laurens on Friday.

The team will play the runner up of the Batesburg-Leesville sub-district tournament at 8:45 p.m.
