The 2009 football season is fast approaching and it’s never too early to start making plans to watch the scarlet and gray in what is a highly anticipated season. Both season tickets and individual game tickets are now on sale through the Newberry College Ticket Office.

The team starts things off on the road but returns to Setzler Field on Sept. 19 for the home opener against Cumberland University. This game will mark the start of a new era under head coach Todd Knight.

An additional three home games follow our home opener in what promises to be one of the most thrilling seasons in Newberry College football history.

The home opener against Cumberland University will also serve as our Hall of Fame and Weekend of Champions game.

Come out as we support our former athletes who will be inducted in the Newberry College Athletic Hall of Fame as well as our current student athletes who had championship seasons in the 2008-09 seasons.

The homecoming game and festivities for the 2009 season will take place on Oct. 10 against Mars Hill College.

The Oct. 24 game against Tusculum will be Service Appreciation Day where Newberry College offers free admission to all military service members with proper ID.

Newberry concludes the season against Brevard College on Nov. 7 in conjunction with Take a Kid to the Game and Lutheran Youth Day.

All children age 12 years old and under are invited to the game free of charge with the purchase of an adult ticket.

As devoted fans, we know that you will be there to watch everything come together as the team makes its way to its third South Atlantic Conference championship in four years.

Fans can now purchase their season tickets to watch all four games on this year’s home schedule for as little as $60 for reserved season tickets.

Individual tickets may also be purchased for $15 for general admission tickets and $16 for reserved tickets.

Newberry College also has Visitor’s Packages and “Create Your Own“ Packages available for those fans that cannot make it to all four home games.

For more information on packages or tickets, please refer to the Newberry College ticket website.

Fans can purchase the 2009 football season tickets and/or individual tickets by calling the Newberry College Athletics Ticket Office at (803) 321-5101 during normal business hours and are also available on line by logging on to the athletic ticket website.

NC Athletics partners with the Newberry Co. Library for its Summer Reading Program

As the school year winds down and classes come to an end, children of all ages look forward to great weather and the freedom of summer.

This year, the Newberry County Library and Newberry College will provide an opportunity for students to continue learning through the summer with the incentive of a free ticket to a 2009 Newberry College home football game for completing their summer reading program.

“We couldn’t be happier to partner with the Newberry County Library on this great endeavor,“ said associate athletic director Matt DeWitt. “It is important to Newberry College to not only educate our students here on campus but that we encourage all ages to pick up a book and expand their horizons.“

The summer reading program is open to all kids, age 18 years old and younger, and provides each of them the freedom to choose what they would like to read over the break.

There are no set books or number of books to read, rather each participant will track the amount of minutes that they read in a log, working their way to a benchmark level set by their age range.

Registration will begin on Wednesday, June 3, with a kick-off party from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m.

Contracts and forms will be available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. throughout June and July.

All reading logs will be due back by Friday, July 24, at 5 p.m.
