TIGHTEN YOUR TAX BELTS

To Senator Ronnie Cromer, Representatives Walt McLeod and Jeff Duncan, time to tighten the belts a little more!

We are asking that our legislators tighten their belts and put part of the 700 million dollars of stimulus toward paying down the state of South Carolina debt and rework the budget. If we do not pay down the debt and spend every cent we have of the stimulus we will become like California. California is trying to figure out how to just survive right now proposing to close state agencies, adding fees and adding taxes.

The result of this proposed reckless spending would be that we would have to massively cut services and agencies in the future. Some agencies should be cut or combined now. South Carolina is at a crossroads. Our legislators have the opportunity to be prudent fiscally responsible or they can behave as children in a candy store, spend it all and as Scarlet in Gone With The Wind “think about it tomorrow.”

The taxpayers, private individuals, small business owners and property owners are already being choked by property taxes, taxes on utility bills, user fees and sales taxes. If our legislators DO NOT CONTROL our spending now and pay down debt we will face a monstrous deficit that will force raising all of the above listed taxes. We will be burdening our children, our grandchildren and ourselves with future massive debt. The economy will be slowed down as a result of this reckless spending, higher taxes and fees.

The economy will recover more quickly without facing a huge debt in the future. Less growth in taxes will stimulate future growth in the economy. This will allow employers to hire and retain more people who will become taxpayers thus increasing the tax revenue.
