The Mid-Carolina High School baseball team claimed the Region III-2A championship with a resounding 13-1 victory against defending 2-A state champion Gilbert yesterday at Mid-Carolina. The game was a first-place tiebreaker for the region championship.

Both teams entered the game ranked in the top-five in the latest South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association poll and tied for the Region III-2A regular season title after finishing the league slate with matching 9-1 records.

The Rebels led 4-0 after the second inning and cruised from there to the emphatic win. C.J. Edwards picked up the victory, his second of the season against Gilbert.

Mid-Carolina will be the top-seed in District III and will open the playoffs Thursday at home against the fourth seed from Region IV. Gilbert will host the third place team from Region IV Thursday.
