THAT KIND OF DAY — Newberry shortstop Blake Hamm bobbles a high chopper, while Treyvon Smith stands at second ready to take the throw. The Bulldogs committed several errors in their loss to Fox Creek yesterday at Gilbert High School.
The Bulldogs dropped their third game of the Sandlapper Tournament, 6-0 to 1-A Fox Creek yesterday at Gilbert.
Newberry also failed to score a run in tournament losses to Williston-Elko and Cardinal Newman.
The Bulldogs had chances to score in yesterday’s game, including one after Treyvon Smith led off the seventh inning with a single to left field.
Smith was thrown out while trying to steal second.
Newberry is currently 0-6 in Region III-2A play and will try to pick up its first league win Tuesday when it hosts Gilbert.
The Indians, the defending 2-A state champions, are ranked fifth in the latest South Carolina Baseball Coaches Association poll.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Bill Harvey Field.
