Local legislator Jeff Duncan announced yesterday that he would run for the Republican nomination for Congress in South Carolina’s third congressional district.
Duncan has represented District 15 in the S.C. House of Representatives since 2003, which serves a portion of Newberry County. Duncan now serves as chairman of the House’s Agriculture, Natural Resources Committee.
During his service in the state legislature, Duncan has received several awards for his conservatism and fiscal discipline.
Duncan, 43, is a real estate broker and auctioneer in Clinton.
The Third Congressional District Seat in the U.S. House of Representatives is being vacated by Rep. Gresham Barrett as he makes a bid for governor. The seat serves Aiken, Greenwood, Anderson, Abbeville, Easley, Pickens, Seneca, Edgefield, Saluda, McCormick and Laurens. Newberry County is in the fifth congressional district.
The election will be in November 2010.
