There will be a number of unfamiliar voices on local radio station WKDK Tuesday as the Rotary Club hosts its annual Rotary Radio Day.

Rotarians have been selling ads to businesses, and the ads will be presented by Rotary members, live and on-air on Tuesday.

“The Rotarians will read ads and offer prizes to WKDK listeners for correct answers to trivia questions about Rotary and/or Newberry,“ according to Rotarian Les Hipp. “Money raised during this fundraiser will be used to pay for local community projects. The businesses received the benefit of advertising their products and services while helping out the community.“

The Newberry Rotary Club was chartered on April 13, 1920 and is comprised of more than 60 members who represent local businesses.

Rotary Radio Day is the club’s biggest fundraiser and helps support boy scouting, a Newberry College scholarship, funding for the YMCA, the annual layperson of the year award, Christmas parties for Boys Farm and Thornwell Home for Children, the library, emergency response teams, Newberry Community Players, Newberry Opera House and students of the month.

The club meets every other Friday at 1 p.m. at the Community Hall.

For information on the Rotary Radio Day call Hipp at 321-0011 or Mac Holmes at 271-8855. WKDK is located at 1240 on the AM dial.
