LITTLE MOUNTAIN — The Town of Little Mountain welcomed new Mayor Jana Jayroe on Tuesday night.

Jayroe was sworn in at the beginning of the council meeting by Judge Gordon Johnson at Town Hall.

Former Mayor Buddy Johnson decided not to serve again after 16 years as mayor. Jayroe was the only person to sign up for the mayor position. Mayor Pro Tem Melvin Bowers was serving as interim mayor until the position was filled.

In other business, council accepted a motion to continue the town’s contract with Richardson’s Heating/AC for town hall and the Louie C. Derrick Center. However, the council will look at other options when the contract expires to save on costs.

Bowers said that there are 25 issues total of the Little Mountain history DVD at Antiques Limited, C. Frick and the Citgo gas station. The DVDs are $7.50 per copy and highlight the history of the town. They were a project began under former mayor Johnson.

“If there is a need for more, I can get them within two days,” said Bowers.

In Little Mountain Reunion news, Jayroe announced there would be a Little Mountain study group to determine the direction of the reunion for this year.

Jayroe talked with Bowers and said that there would be four people appointed to brainstorm ideas and then present them to the town.

“I told them to go in stages and move forward. I also told them to think outside the box with past ideas that worked and future, fresh ideas,” she said. “The original idea (of the festival) was to promote the town through a fun, shared experience. We are going to wipe the slate clean from the past and move forward.”

The reunion was canceled last year due to disputes between the town and reunion association. However, the four community members will talk through ideas and present them to the town at a future meeting.

The next regularly scheduled town council meeting is 6:30 p.m. April 9 at Town Hall.
