SILVERSTREET — Ruth Hamm Nichols, 75, of 5664 Deadfall Road, Silverstreet and widow of David R. Nichols, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Palmetto Health Richland.

She was born in Macon, Ga. on Feb. 10, 1934 to the late Rev. Dr. Luther Boyd Hamm and the late Mildred Wheeler Hamm.

Mrs. Nichols was a graduate of Columbia College and taught third grade at Reuben Elementary School for a number of years. She was an active member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and James F. Clements Jr. of Roswell, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Judy N. Nichols of Gilbert; grandchildren, Amanda Nichols Johnson, Robin Melissa Nichols, James David Clements and Rebecca Robinson Clements; and sisters, Patricia Hamm Wagner of Seattle, Wash., Virginia Hamm Shirley and Carol Hamm Strickland, both of Hickory, N.C.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Silverstreet Lutheran Church by the Rev. Steve Jackson and the Rev. Dr. Robert McCullum. Interment will be in Silverstreet Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.
