NEWBERRY — The Newberry College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee raised more than $350 for the 2013 Play 4Kay initiative during the Wolves’ basketball doubleheader on Feb. 16.

The Newberry SAAC accepted donations at the door for Play 4Kay, during the women’s basketball game against Carson-Newman. Pink Newberry Play 4Kay T-shirts were available to the first 50 people to make a donation, before the Wolves and Lady Eagles tipped off. The Newberry SAAC ran out of T-shirts before halftime of the women’s game.

“It was great to have Newberry College participate in Play 4Kay once again,” said Hannah Rohrer, SAAC Newberry president. “It was exciting to see the communities of Newberry and Newberry College united within Eleazer Arena to show support for the Play 4Kay initiative by wearing pink to the games. We were pleased to have a Newberry Play 4Kay T-shirt, which allows for the support to extend beyond the Play 4Kay event on February 16.”

The 2013 Play 4Kay initiative is an opportunity for a nation of coaches to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for research on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised over $2 million to support women’s cancer research.
