NEWBERRY — A unique dining event is planned for Wednesday in downtown Newberry.
“We were looking for a new and unique event that we had not tried before,” said City of Newberry Assistant Manager Matt DeWitt.
The event is part of a partnership between the city leaders and the downtown businesses to bring more business to the slow downtown economy.
He added that he wanted the event to also highlight some of what downtown has to offer and after meeting with business owners the idea for Dine Around Town was born..
Flying Pie Owner Kathy Kyzer said progressive meals are always a great and give customers a sample of what the area eateries have to offer.
“(Customers) get a sample of the best of the best,” she said of the food being served.
For Kyzer the event is also a chance for her to try out new dishes such as she crab soup, grilled rosemary chicken, spinach cannelloni, buttery scallops and chocolate orange gelato.
The four course dinner is being provided by The Cabana Cafe’, The Grille on Main, Steven W’s, and the Flying Pie, as well as a free gift from Cathy’s Cakery. Depending on which option is chosen determines where the patron will eat each course.
Happy Hour and after dinner drink specials will also be available at Half Full and Pour Richard’s to ticket holders.
The cost for the meal plans are either $40 for casual or $60 fine dinning with the time choices for the start of the meals ranging from 6 until 7:30 p.m.
DeWitt said that also many of the downtown shops have agreed to stay open during the event.
“We are glad the city is recognizing the importance of downtown businesses,” Kyzer added.
“We want to incorporate all of downtown in the event,” said DeWitt, adding all of the downtown restaurants are participating. “We are excited and the restaurants are excited. We hope everyone that comes will have fun and tell their friends so the next one will be even bigger.”
He adds that the success of the event will come with the participants returning to dine downtown on a regular basis.
DeWitt says over 20 participants have already signed up for the event.
But Mary Alex Kopp, city events coordinator, said she expects many last minute reservations on Friday.
