INDIANAPOLIS – In the first NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Southeast Region rankings released Wednesday, the Newberry women’s basketball team found itself ranked No. 9 in the region.

Newberry (18-7, 10-5 SAC) has played five of the ten teams in the Southeast Region rankings, including region No. 1 Clayton State. The Wolves lost earlier in the season to Clayton State, but defeated the No. 2 squad in the region Limestone. Newberry holds a 3-2 record against opponents in the region’s top 10.

Four teams from the South Atlantic Conference appear in the first NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Southeast Rankings.

The rankings are the official poll recognized during the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship selection process.

Leading the SAC in the regional rankings is current conference-leader Anderson at No. 4. Lenoir-Rhyne is No. 5 in the rankings, while Newberry and Catawba sit No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.

The NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Committee will release updated rankings each week leading up to the selection of the championship field.
