NEWBERRY COUNTY — The Newberry County School District’s Health Services states that beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, all students entering seventh grade must receive or have received a Tdap vaccine to attend school.

The newly required Tdap vaccine protects students from tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough (pertussis). This vaccine is routinely recommended to be given at 11-12 years of age. However, if Tdap vaccine is needed at an earlier age, a dose received on or after the seventh birthday will meet this requirement.

Parents must give your child’s school a South Carolina Certificate of Immunization, prior to the beginning of the next school year, to prove a child has had the vaccine.
