LITTLE MOUNTAIN — The Town of Little Mountain is going to start selling historical DVDs in the businesses in town.

At Tuesday night’s rescheduled town council meeting, all of the council members favored this decision and decided to order 25 DVDs that will be sold for $7.50 per copy. If more needs to be ordered, they will be.

Mayor Pro Tem Melvin Bowers will order the copies after they are finished editing. As of Tuesday, the DVDs were in the final editing stage.

The DVDs reflect on the history of the town and have been a work in progress for many years now.

In other business, a couple of Little Mountain Reunion Association members were at the meeting to find out if there would be a reunion this year. Last year, the reunion was canceled because of differences between the town and the Association.

Woody Kaminer and Mike Remion met with Bowers and Councilman Jeff Jefcoat earlier and were there to discuss ideas for the annual festival and to answer questions.

“The major problem the town needs to avoid is liability, especially with alcohol sales,” Bowers said.

The Reunion Association is an incorporated group that has $1 million in insurance. It goes through the S.C. Department of Revenue for its alcohol and beverage license.

However, the issue discussed was whether the insurance would be enough to cover a potential lawsuit worth over $1.5 million.

Bowers said the town has insurance with the Municipal Association of South Carolina but it does not cover alcohol sales.

Councilwoman Susan Epting asked if alcohol was absolutely necessary at the reunion.

Remion responded that the association needs around $18,000 to kick off for the next time and alcohol sales represent around a third of their income. Also Budweiser is a big marketer for them, Remion added.

Former Mayor Buddy Johnson and his wife, Pat, also presented a report from concerned citizens of Little Mountain about the route the reunion has taken from what it used to be.

The council did not make any decision but will seek legal advice concerning liability especially with alcohol sales.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do as a council. Thank you for your comments. With legal advice, we will try to find something that accommodates both parties,” said Bowers.

In other business, most of the Stage II work at the community center/senior center/library is complete, according to Bowers. Drywall must be completed and carpeting must be corrected. The Stage II part involves the library.

The sign outside the center continues to have problems and Bowers said he is working to fix the problem so the sign does not fall down for a fourth time.

The next meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. March 12 at Town Hall. The only qualified person to apply for the mayoral position — Jana Jayroe — was not on the agenda for February’s meeting and a date for her swearing in has not been set yet.
