NEWBERRY — Newberry College is introducing a prayer breakfast program.

The prayer breakfasts, to be held every other Tuesday, began at 7 a.m. Feb. 19 in the Newberry College cafeteria. They will be a combination of a prayer breakfast and a weekly inspiration.

Each prayer breakfast features a word of inspiration, a scripture reading, a prayer and a guest speaker. The events will feature Newberry College faculty members, staff members and students. Newberry College president Dr. Maurice Scherrens spoke at the first breakfast. Scherrens’ topic was “The Ethics Scorecard: Consequentialism 30, Deontology, 0.”

Campus pastor Ernie Worman developed the program in response to suggestions.

“Every semester I do different things to see if there is an interest,” Worman said. “I have had many people ask me to do something like this, so I decided I would try it out and see how it goes.”

Worman hopes the prayer breakfasts will prove popular. “I hope this breakfast will inspire and motivate us for the week,” he said, “and I hope to do this every other Tuesday. But, if it’s popular, then maybe every Tuesday.”
