ATLANTA, Ga. — Newberry College earned third place in the College Coed 6 division in the Cheersport 2013 National Cheerleading and Dance Championship held at the Georgia World Congress Center Arena.
The Wolves finished third with a score of 85.12 behind a pair of Division 1 cheerleading squads, with every team judged on a 100 point scale over two days. The University of Kentucky won the competition with a 99.66, while Georgia Tech finished second with a score of 92.67.
Newberry finished ahead of the University of Alberta. The University of Alberta was the ACA Total Spirit Cheerleading Champion in 2012. Kentucky has won 19 UCA National College Cheerleading Championships.
The Cheersport 2013 National Cheerleading and Dance Championship was the first of two competitions Newberry will compete in during the 2012-13 competition season. The Newberry cheerleaders will next compete March 24 in Gaffney at Limestone’s Clash of the Carolinas.
