LITTLE MOUNTAIN — The Little Mountain town council meeting is rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday.
The town council did not meet during its normally scheduled time — which is 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month — at town hall nor was there any notice given until an email was sent about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
According to Mayor Pro Tem Melvin Bowers, the meeting was canceled since this week is the first week of the Christian observance of Lent. Tuesday was Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Fat Tuesday, and Wednesday was Ash Wednesday.
At next Tuesday’s meeting, there might be a new mayor, Jana Jayroe, only if there are no write-in applicants. The deadline for write-in applicants is noon Friday. If there are applicants, then there will be a special election April 2.
Bowers is temporarily taking over the mayoral duties until a mayor is elected.
