Gary Bouknight prepared pancakes for Shrove Tuesday at Epting Memorial United Methodist Church in Newberry Tuesday evening. Bouknight is part of the church’s men group that has helped prepare the Shrove Tuesday feast for at least 20 years. Pancakes and other breakfast items were served to people as they prepared to observe Lent. The church also had an Ash Wednesday service at 6 p.m. along with many other churches around the county.

Jerry Kneece helps make and prepare pancakes for Epting Memorial United Methodist’s Shrove Tuesday celebration Tuesday night. Kneece is also a part of the men’s group at the church who meets every month to plan events and also fellowship. Stacks of pancakes were made for the small church community to celebrate before the start of Lent.
