PROSPERITY — The Mid-Carolina JV basketball team did a clean-up job before hitting the gym last Tuesday by putting on orange vests and cleaning up Wooded Hill Road near the school.

“We have reached all of our goals on the court, beating our two closest rivals in Chapin and Newberry, but being a part of a team that represents a community of hard workers means that you have to be held to a higher standard,” said Coach Joshua Noble.

In a little over an hour of work, the team, which consists of Clay McConnell, Zy Hiller, Jhi Wright, Skyler Culbertson, Malik Pearson, Tray Green, Jayme Murillo and Purnell Chaplin, collected 18 bags of garbage and four bags of recyclable goods, said Noble.

The team members said they picked a good road for their efforts because a heavy amount of trash could be seen on the roadway.

Sheri Scott and Ron Abrams, Community Oriented Police Officers for the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office, assisted the team by slowing down the traffic on the rural road while the boys worked. The team was rewarded for their efforts with pizza from Roma’s.
