Wolves golf team finishes ninth

KIAWAH ISLAND — The Newberry Wolves’ women’s golf team shot a two-day total of 56-over par 632 (307-325) to finish in ninth place in the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, completed Sunday on the par 72, 5,800-yard Cougar Point Golf Course.

Lynn University won the tournament at +16, with the Wolves in a tightly grouped middle of the pack. Newberry was only eight strokes out of the top five in the tournament.

The Wolves were led by Lisa Brandl who tied for 19th individually at 11 over par 155 after Sunday’s 79.

Natalia Perez had Newberry’s top round on Sunday, matching Saturday’s 78 to tie for 23rd with a 12 over par 156.

Eline Askeland and Barbara Castro each shot 84 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 43rd in the tournament with a two-day total of 17 over par 161. Julia Daneshfar tied for 70th with a 26 over par 170.

The Wolves will return to Cougar Point as well as the nearby Oak Point course on March 3 through March 5 to participate in the primarily Division I Edwin Watts/Kiawah Island Classic.
