NEWBERRY — The Newberry High School Bulldog boys won their 32nd consecutive game inside the county Tuesday evening as they are still undefeated after seven regional games. The latest win was a 78-56 victory over Abbeville in the Scott Gym.

Newberry’s Jalin Alexander got two fouls called on him early in the game, putting him in limited action for the duration of the evening.

Newberry had an eight-to-four field shot advantage over Abbeville in the first quarter gave the Bulldogs a 32-24 advantage.

The Panthers only made nine field shots the entire first half while the Bulldogs made 11 in the second quarter alone as Newberry took a 50-28 lead into the locker rooms.

Abbeville won the third quarter battle 18-14 but Newberry’s 14-10 fourth quarter run gave the Bulldogs their 19th win in 21 games this season, including eight straight this year.

Kaheem Praylow, who received a game ball prior to the line-up announcements for having surpassed the 1,000-point club for his career, had a game high 22 points.

Notorious Booker finished with 12 points while Try Miller saw 10 points go in.

Jaylin Lindsay finished with nine points, Jeremy Summers scored eight points while Tovaris Cureton finished with seven.

Alexander and Bennett Wilson each finished with four points while the Newberry scoring ended with the two points of Dominic Gilmore.

With Newberry having at least a three-game advantage with as many games to go over everybody but Batesburg-Leesville as of press time, Newberry can claim at least a tie of the regional lead with a win Friday at Ninety Six.

Should Batesburg-Leesville lose any of its final four games, Newberry would only have to win its game at Ninety Six or in the Scott Gym next week with Batesburg-Leesville on Tuesday or Mid-Carolina on the seventh to claim their second straight regional championship.
