NEWBERRY — The body of a man reported missing early Wednesday morning was pulled from Lake Murray at Black’s Bridge around 12:40 p.m. today (Wednesday), officials said.

The man’s name was being withheld until his family could be notified. He had been reported missing Wednesday morning by his friends and family and his truck was found parked at the bridge.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and the Saluda County Sheriff’s Office worked with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and the Newberry County Water Rescue Team searching for the man.

“A sonar device on the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office boat that was purchased through a grant detected the body in approximately 10 feet of water,” Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said.

Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton was on the scene to determine the circumstances around the death.

Black’s Bridge is located on S.C. 391.
