NEWBERRY — Two Newberry County School District board members were recognized for their service time by the S.C. School Board Association (SCSBA).
Lee Attaway and Jody Hamm were honored with plaques at Monday’s school board meeting for serving 15 and 10 years respectively on the school board in Newberry County.
This year, 42 school board members from throughout the state will receive special lapel pins for reaching the 10- or 15-year benchmark. Another 21 will commemorate their 20th, 25th, 30th, 35th and 40th year of school board service.
Veteran school board members provide vision and valuable leadership for school districts. SCSBA and the local boards are happy to honor these board members for their long-term dedication to improving student achievement in their communities.
For the 2013 year, in South Carolina, about 63 percent of the state’s 621 school board members have served four years or less. Thirty-three percent have 10 years or more of board service.
SCSBA is a non-profit organization serving as a source of information and a statewide voice for boards governing the 81 school districts.
