NEWBERRY COUNTY — Those interested in either the Parr Reservoir or Lake Monticello are encouraged to take interest in the new federal re-licensing.
SCE&G held a public outreach meeting Jan. 17 at the Newberry County Courthouse with about 15 people in attendance to hear how they can become more involved.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission re-licensing will occur in the next 30 to 50 years for the Parr Hydroelectric Project, which includes the Parr Hydro and Fairfield Pumped Storage Plant. The project is encompassed under Project No. 1894.
The project has a variety of stakeholders, from federal, state and county government to city government, non-governmental and private citizens.
Residents are encouraged to get involved with a stakeholder and to keep current with the re-licensing project, especially if they are interested in the above mentioned areas, even if it’s just for recreation.
A website — www.parrfairfieldrelicense.com — is accessible but is under construction. People can visit the website for for FERC re-licensing libraries, administration procedures, meeting dates and summaries, presentations, study plans and reports among other information.
