NEWBERRY — Chevis E. Franklin, 73, of 4007 College St., Newberry, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at his residence.

Chevis was born on Nov. 19, 1939, in Newberry, the son of the late D. Earl and Narvis Merchant Franklin McDaniel.

He was a US. Navy veteran and a member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church. He was in law enforcement for over 28 years in Newberry County. And was a former member of the Newberry County Law Enforcement association and the S.C. Law Enforcement Association.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Riddle Franklin; daughters, Lindsay E. Franklin of Newberry, Tamela A. Adkins of Saluda, and Tanya Rose of Ga.; sons, Kristopher S. Franklin and Kevin Chase Franklin both of Newberry; grandchildren, Austin Saverance, Haley and Carley Franklin, Erin and Branden Murphy, Benjamin and Lena Amick, Matthew and Tristen Rose; and three great-grandchildren..

Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in the Springdale Section of Rosemont Cemetery by the Rev. Rodney Gunter and Rev. David Conner.

Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin Hancock, Roy Stribble, Marvin Calloway, Mark “Butch” Griffith, Bart Cochcroft, and B. J. Cochcroft.
