City of Newberry honors retirees

Newberry Mayor Foster Senn, left, and City Administrator Jeff Shacker, right, honored Janet Long for her retirement from the city. Long started working in the City of Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department in September of 1992 and held the position of program coordinator. She was known as the voice of the city by many because of her discussing recreational events on the radio.

Columbus “Jackie” Gary, center, was honored by Newberry Mayor Foster Senn, left, and City Manager Jeff Shacker on his retirement. Gary started working for the Public Works Department in May of 1991 and held the position of heavy equipment operator. Gary is still working part time for the city.

Wyse Hill, center, was recognized for his retirement from the City of Newberry by Mayor Foster Senn, left, and City Manager Jeff Shacker on Tuesday. Hill worked for the City of Newberry Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department as a maintenance worker and has held the position since December of 2004. When he is not working he helps his church cook for fundraisers.
