COLUMBIA - James Watkins Martin, 41, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at his residence.

Born on July 14, 1971, in Newberry, he was the son of W. Watkins Martin and Patricia Jewel Shealy.

Mr. Martin was a former fireman with the Edisto Island Fire Department and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He was also a former member of the Friendly Volunteer Fire Department in Newberry.

He is survived by his father, Watkins Martin of Newberry and his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Thomas Shealy of Prosperity; a sister, Libby Martin Carpenter of Wilmington, N.C.; stepsisters, Susan (Nate) Rish of Edisto Island and Angela (George) Lemacks of Chapin; nephews, Clyde and Cole Carpenter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. James Counts. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1167 Trinity Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Chad Morris, Thomas Shaver, Brandon Morris, Eakie McCullough, Chuck Rogers and Ashley Wilson.
