Okay, we are only hours away from welcoming a new year to our daily routine. Yes, I realize most of use are simply worn out from the holiday activities and are considering changes for this new year. Some of us simply feel it is just another day of our lives. Personally I am fascinated by the fact that all of use are unique individuals, each of us different in many ways.

If you study history, you will find that all of the heroes we hold in high esteem, varied in stature. Some were considered weird by their peers, but all were bold in their constructive minds and were diligent in their pursuit of making the world a better place to live, work and play. As I consider my fellow man today, I believe each of us should, can and will make a contribution to our society.

Okay, maybe we will not be another Henry Ford, Martin Luther King Jr. or John Kennedy, but any one of us, including our offspring, could possibly become the person that finds a cure for cancer or invent the next thinking device that will control space travel.

Can you comprehend what I am trying to get you to consider? Each of us has the capability to do so much more. Yes, each of us may have worn ourselves out during the rush of the holidays, but if we will only opt to get some rest and look at this new year as a challenge.

Possibly you need to change a habit or two, or possibly you just need to look at how you utilize your time. Ask yourself what you might do to help make a positive change in our society. Perhaps all you need to do is recalibrate your personality. Would it not be great if every time you approach people they were exuberant and excited to see you?

I know I am not working at my fullest potential and am certain to make many New Year Promises that will be partially broken during the first week, but I will be, by the grace of God, out there trying to make a difference.

What about you? Are you willing to invest in our society? We would welcome your investment in your Newberry County Chamber of Commerce. We need members that want to help make Newberry County the place to be in 2013. One never knows what he or she can accomplish if they never try. Here at your chamber, we are trying to make a difference and all we are asking is that you investigate yourself and make a decision to affect change. Each of us can make a positive impact to our society if only we will boldly step out and do it. You know you can.

Call Liz, Michelle or myself and let’s discuss how a chamber membership may be just what you need to help you break out of your shell and do something great for mankind. Call 276-4274. It could change the way you view yourself.
