NEWBERRY — James Calvin “J.C.” McLeod, 84, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at White Oak Manor.

Born on Oct. 20, 1928, in the Bush River Community of Newberry County, he was a son of the late John Robert and Azilee Satterwhite McLeod. He was a graduate of the Bush River Schools and retired with over 40 years of service from the South Carolina Army National Guard. He was a 60 year Life Member of Amity Lodge # 87 AFM of Newberry and a former member and deacon of Hunt Memorial Baptist Church.

Mr. McLeod is survived by his wife of 62 years, Katherine Holsonback McLeod; a son, Bryan James McLeod of Newberry; daughters, Deborah (Steve) Massingale of Newberry and Nancy Key of Mauldin; brothers, John Robert McLeod Jr. of West Columbia and Frank Edward McLeod of Newberry; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Bush River Baptist Church by the Rev. Brian Preston and Rev. Michael Timmerman. Burial with military honors and masonic rites will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6–8 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 303 W. Alexander Ave., Suite 1, Greenwood, SC 29646, the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive, Suite 301, Cayce, SC 29033 or to Bush River Baptist Church, 8935 Bush River Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren.

Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces, nephews, cousins and Freddie Harmon and Larry Millstead Sr.
