On March 10, CSX and S.C. Department of Transportation officials met in Prosperity to finalize the plans for installing the crossing arms.
Two days later, a log truck didn’t make it across the tracks before a train headed toward Newberry collided with the truck’s trailer.
The wreck threw debris that tore down poles that had been set to install the crossing arms.
CSX officials are now saying it will take them two months to reinstall the poles and put up the cross arms.
Town officials have asked for the crossing arms to be installed for a number of years. There have been numerous train versus vehicle wrecks at the crossing.
CSX also plans to smooth out pavement at railroad crossings in the town in the upcoming weeks.
