WHITMIRE — The Whitmire town council recognized Mayor Tim Carroll for his service to the town on Thursday afternoon.

Carroll has served the town for two decades, 20 years, with 10 years as a council member and 10 years as mayor. Carroll’s service ends Dec. 31 and council member Billy Hollingsworth will became the new mayor in January. The swear-in for Hollingsworth and the other council members will be held Jan. 3 at 4:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

Carroll thanked the council members present for working with him and will take the time to work and spend with his family.

He’ll look forward to less meetings and the constant checking of his voice mail, he says with a laugh and is looking forward to dedicating time spend with family as serving in public office tended to keep him busy.

“I just want to thank all of you for working together and know that I’ll still be around and always available,” said the Whitmire resident.

Carroll had run for county council district 1 but lost in a tight race.

Special election news

The town’s special election for Hollingsworth’s council seat will be held April 2. The filling for the seat will be between Feb. 8-22 and applicants should apply at the Whitmire Town Hall.
