Christmas Tournament finds NHS with a win

NEWBERRY — The 2012 Newberry Christmas Tournament tipped off Wednesday at Newberry College’s Eleazor Arena.

Aiken and Saluda started the tournament off with Aiken winning 60-52 Fort Mill took game two over Columbia, 61-47.

Mid-Carolina and Clinton started the evening off with the Red Devils winning with less than a second to go with a basket inside the paint, 62-61.

Zach Parker scored 15 points while Brent Caldwell scored 11.

Marcus Chapman scored 10 while Cornelius Glasgow scored eight points in the fourth quarter alone.

Denton Hyman finished the evening with seven points, Marcus McMorris scored four while the Rebel scoring ended with the two points apiece of Chris Boyd, Javarious Nelson and Tevarres Taylor.

For Clinton, Tay Cook scored 25 points, RJ Robinson followed with 14, Shakiyl Smiley had seven points, Nike Davis scored six points, Lavodrick Glenn made four and Kenyon Brown, Tyrii Rumph and Ian Kinard each had two points.

Newberry never trailed in their 80-41 victory over Brookland-Cayce in the nightcap.

Jeremy Summers was the lone Bulldog to finish in double digits as he finished with 10 points.

Notorious Booker and Greely Saddler scored nine points apiece.

Jalin Alexander scored eight points for the Bulldogs.

Dominic Gilmore and Kaheem Praylow scored seven points apiece.

Devin Harmon, Bennett Wilson and Jaylen Lindsey finished the night with six points each.

Tovaris Cureton saw four points go in while Trey Miller and Raquon Davenport each scored a three-pointer while Trey Gary scored two to finish Newberry’s scoring.

The results of Thursday’s games were not available at press time.
