NEWBERRY — A new business is resulting in the change in zoning for several businesses on Wilson Road.

The plan is for a new business to be located near the intersection of Wilson Road and Dixie Drive in the city of Newberry.

Currently there is a 1920s stone home on the property and the area has been zoned for residential.

But with the transfer of the 2.29 acre property, the Newberry City Council has been asked to rezone the area to commercial.

As city and zoning leaders looked at the area they discovered that a vacant lot, Domino’s Pizza, a vacant building at 667 Wilson Road, the AES Mini Warehouses, Wilson Marine and Farmers Mutual were all zoned for limited industrial.

While the businesses fits the limit industrial zoning they are commercial in nature.

After speaking with each of the eight property owners, they were all agreeable to the zoning change.

There is a public hearing scheduled on the rezoning for Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. at City Hall on College Street.
