NINETY SIX — Gussie Yongue Werts, 99, resident of Lowman Home, White Rock, widow of Andrew C. “Drew” Werts, died Wednesday, Dec.12, 2012.

Born in Bowman, she was a daughter of the late Robert M. and Maggie Kizer Yongue.

She retired from Self Memorial Hospital and, for 81 years, was a member of the Clemson Home Demonstration Club, where she was named Homemaker of the Year.

Mrs. Werts was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church of Ninety Six.

Surviving are two daughters, Lena Kate Leagan of Pomaria and Rebecca W. Trapp (Richard) of Little Mountain; a son, Robert A. Werts of West Columbia; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Marion Clyde Werts.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Ninety Six with the Rev. Chuck Sprouse and the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Francis Werts, Drew Trapp, Clete Leagan, Chad Cox, Jeff Byrd and Charles Waldrop.

The body will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The family will receive friends in the Multipurpose Building at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.

The family members are at their respective homes.

It is respectfully requested that flowers be omitted and memorials made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 85, Ninety Six, SC 29666; White Rock Lutheran Hospice, 1505 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or to the charity of your choice.
