NEWBERRY — The Newberry High basketball teams split their double-header Monday night at Clinton High as the Bulldog boys are still undefeated after five games.

The free-throw line seemed to be the deciding factor in the Lady Bulldogs’ game to begin the evening with Newberry going four-of-six from the charity stripe while Clinton converted 13 of their 24 free throw attempts as they would go on to the 46-40 victory.

Arnasia Boyd and Tyshira Bates scored 13 points apiece for Newberry.

Fatima Sims scored six while Breanna Mathis scored four. Shidedria Maybiin and Octavia Grandy scored two points apiece as the Lady Bulldogs fall to 1-4 on the season.

The Bulldog boys only trailed in the waning moments of the opening game as not only did Newberry have its highest scoring output of the season, 86, but they also would hold Clinton to an opponent’s lowest scoring total of this season at 38 points.

After taking a 26-17 lead after the first quarter, Newberry held Clinton to single digits in each of the final three quarters of play (26-6, 19-7 and 15-8).

Newberry made 36 field shots, including seven three pointers while Clinton made 13 field shots, with one of them being from behind the arc.

Jeremy Summers scored 14 points to lead Newberry’s scoring.

Roquon Davenport scored 13, Jalin Alexander contributed 11 while after having received the North offensive MVP Saturday at the North/South All-Star game, Tovaris Cureton scored eight points.

Trey Miller scored seven points, Kaheem Praylow and Greely Saddler had six points apiece while Deven Harmon and Jaylen Reeder each scored five points.

Jaylin Lindsey scored four points, Dominic Gilmore scored three, Trey Gary and Tyon Willias scored two points apiece to end the scoring for Newberry.

Newberry will travel to Chapin on Thursday before hosting the Red Devils on Friday for their last home game in the Scott Gym for the 2012 calendar year.
