WHITMIRE — Christmas will be buzzing in Whitmire on Saturday as the Whitmire Jaycees bring their annual Christmas parade down Main Street.

The parade begins at noon; however, for those in the parade, the line-up begins at 11 a.m. at corner of Main Street and Railroad Avenue.

There is no entry fee and according to the Jaycees Sue Hollingsworth, the Jaycees will accept entries the day of.

Hollingsworth does say that horses are not to be allowed unless the people with the horses will clean up after them.

As for the grand marshal, there is not one this year, but the Whitmire Police Chief Jeremiah Sinclair will lead the line-up.

In addition to the Jaycees bringing Christmas cheer to the town, they also have their ongoing Cheer Fund in which people may adopt a child for the holidays and buy a gift or gifts.

All of the children benefited by the fund are local, Whitmire children whose identity is protected, according to Hollingsworth.

She adds that people may donate monetary funds or they may adopt a child by contacting Hollingsworth at 694-3797 , Stacey Reynolds at 537-2535 or any Jaycees member. People may also head to the Whitmire Jaycees Facebook page where they may find a link to the Cheer Fund page. However, they must ask to be added.

So far, Hollingsworth says they still have 25 children to be adopted and adoptions should be made by Dec. 19.

There is a drop off date on Dec. 21 between 3-5 p.m. at Grace Baptist in Whitmire where people may drop off gifts.

Also, after the parade on Saturday, people may drop by Charlie Wilbanks studio and receive an exchange deal. People may bring by a toy in exchange for a photo opportunity.

The Jaycees are a local organization under the bigger umbrella group of the Jaycees across the state in which people in the community come together to learn about leadership and volunteering in the community. Christmas is a big season for the Whitmire Jaycees and they host the aforementioned activities including the tree lighting ceremony that was held Nov. 30.
