NEBWERRY — The City of Newberry Council is working to amend an ordinance to limit the size of LED signs.

The Light Emitting Diodes (LED) signs in the city would be limited to the commercial and industrial zoning areas. This would limit the signage to the Wilson Road and Highway 219 areas.

Also, businesses would only be allowed to have one LED sign

The city leaders also agreed in a vote on the ordinance to limit the size of the signs to no greater than 32-square-feet and a single dimension of no bigger than four-feet by eight-feet in length.

Currently there are only two LED signs in the city limits at Title Max and Sonic on Wilson Road, but the new Piedmont Technical College campus plans to have an LED sign at its front entrance.

In other business discussed recently by Newberry City Council;

• Zebbie Goudelock was elected as mayor pro-tem. This is a two-year term. He will serve any needs where Mayor Foster Senn can not and preside over council meetings if Senn is not available.

• The council voted that Friday would be designated as Arbor Day. To honor Arbor Day, city officials and Newberry Elementary School students will plant a tree at the school.

• Tony Chapman, Luvester Davis, Elizabeth Hipp and Sean Pomeroy were all appointed to another term on the Architectual Review Board.

• Clarence Chick was appointed to serve another term on the Newberry Housing Authority Board of Directors.
