NEWBERRY — The City of Newberry Mayor Foster Senn has proclaimed the week of Dec. 2-9 as Newberry’s “Tuba and Euphonium” week.

In order to help celebrate this city observance, Heavy Metal, the tuba and euphonium ensemble from Newberry College will make a special appearance on Friday at the Flying Pie restaurant on Main Street in downtown Newberry, beginning at 7 p.m.

Heavy Metal is an eclectic group that plays pop, rock, swing and classics. It is a group of 15 tuba and euphonium (baritone horn) players from the college that in addition to special arrangements for the group have written much of their own material.

The Flying Pie will be offering their standard meal and drink menu for this event and people are encouraged to stay and enjoy the guitar circle which begins when Heavy Metal finishes.

For more information about this event contact Bill Long, director of bands at Newberry College at 321-5180.
