NEWBERRY — Children young and old get ready: The Jolly Old Elf will be making the rounds via Christmas parades filled with floats, bands and other entertainment beginning Dec. 1 in Newberry.

The Newberry parade is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 and the Prosperity parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2. Whitmire will hold its parade at noon Saturday, Dec. 8.

The Newberry parade, which is sponsored by the Newberry Jaycees, will be on Main Street from Calhoun to Nance streets. Participants will line up on Calhoun, Johnstone, Amelia and Cheatham streets.

Prizes will be given for the best of the best in the parade. In addition to a plaque and next year’s entry fee waived for winners, $100 will be awarded to the participants claiming best float, best walking group and best decorated vehicle.

Participants need to be in their designated line-up spot by 10 a.m. the day of the parade. Line-up details will be available from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 30 in the Newberry Observer parking lot. Call Haley McBride at 864-430-8607 for more information.
