NEWBERRY — Newberry College’s 12th annual “Tuba Christmas” will be presented at 3 p.m. Dec. 8 in the West Memorial Recital Hall in the Alumni Music Center on the Newberry College campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

Bill Long is Newberry College’s director of bands.

“Tuba Christmas” is an international event started by famed tubist Harvey Phillips. The first event was held in New York’s Rockefeller Center and has since been incorporated and expanded to most major cities in the United States and Canada. In South Carolina, there are four performances, one in Newberry and the others in Rock Hill, Charleston and Greenville.

The program involves tuba and euphonium players, performing massed Christmas carols especially arranged for these instruments. Interested tubists or euphonium players should report to the Newberry College band room for an hour rehearsal at 12:30 p.m. Dec. 8.
