PEAK – A 42-year-old Prosperity man has been arrested and charged with murder after his wife’s body was found in the Broad River on Friday.

Sheriff Lee Foster told numerous news media outlets that deputies arrested Allen Lee Koon after the body was identified as his wife, Cindy.

Cindy Koon’s body was found by a group of boaters near S.C. 213 around 12:30 p.m. Friday, according to the sheriff’s department release.

Investigators said she had been beaten, stabbed and cut. They were able to identify Koon through her fingerprints using a statewide fingerprint identification system. Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton said Koon died from a cut to her jugular vein.

Investigators identified Koon around 6 p.m. Friday, about the same time Allen Koon reported her missing to the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.

Based on the investigation, investigators went into Koon’s home with a search warrant and found several items of evidence including forensic evidence.

The couple has a long, documented history of domestic problems going as far back as 2007; however, there were no convictions for domestic violence against either the husband or wife, according to the sheriff’s department’s records.

At this point it appears that Koon acted alone in the death and moving of the his wife’s body, according to investigators.

A bond hearing has not been set.
