Monday deadlines for parades

NEWBERRY COUNTY — Time is running out for those thinking about being in the Prosperity and Newberry Christmas parades.

The Newberry parade will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. and the Prosperity parade will be Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m.

But deadlines for entrants into both parades is Monday.

The Newberry parade will be on Main Street from Calhoun to Nance streets. The cost to enter the parade ranges from $15 for walking groups, $20 for cars, trucks, floats, ATVs, tractors, golf carts, $30 for tractor-trailers and $40 for automobile clubs for the first five vehicles and $5 for each additional vehicle. Participants will line up on Calhoun, Johnstone, Amelia and Cheatham streets.

The parade is sponsored by the Newberry Jaycees.

Prizes will be given for the best of the best in the parade. In addition to a plaque and next year’s entry fee waived for winners, $100 will be given out to the participates claiming best float, walking group” and decorated vehicle sponsored by the City of Newberry.

Participates in this year’s parade are asked to be in their designated line-up spot by 10 a.m. Line-up details will be available to those who register early on Friday, Nov. 30 from 12-2 p.m. in the Newberry Observer parking lot.

The Prosperity parade will move down its Main Street the following day.

The deadline by Monday during business hours to Prosperity Town Hall on School Drive or mail to P.O. Box 36, Prosperity, SC 29127 or call 364- 2121.

The entry fee is $15 per entry type. Make check payable to Town of Prosperity. Those entering after Monday at 5 p.m. will be assessed a $20 entry fee. No entries will be accepted after noon on Thursday, Nov. 29.

The Whitmire parade is Saturday, Dec. 8 at noon with line up at 11 a.m. on North Main Street.
