NEWBERRY — The city and farming communities came together Tuesday night to celebrate the 36th Annual Farm-City Banquet.

The banquet is held each year to show appreciation for the local farming community.

The banquet comes during the Farm-City week, when the community is asked to think about the local farmers, ranchers, processors, truck drivers, retailers and others who work so hard to supply food.

After a concert given by local singer Codi Lester, farmers were given awards for their efforts.

This year’s top Holstein dairy award went to Satterwhite Farms. The Satterwhite family is now milking 1,000 cows at their farm in the Bush River Community.

And the award for the best Jersey dairy went to Bush River Jerseys which is milking 375 cows daily.

As Tina Horn, with Clemson Extension, presented the awards she added that both farms are also supporting community and youth activities to help others learn about farming.

The Woodland Management award wen to Chase Folk, who works with tree growers in Newberry and two other counties.

The state income from forest production is the top cash crop in the state and brings in over $17 million.

The top turkey producer award went to Wilson and Shelby Felker. Their farm produced 105,000 turkeys this year that weighed an average of 43.1 pounds.
