NEWBERRY — Mrs. Marie G. Swittenberg, 84, of 1402 Harris St., Newberry, died Wednesday at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Mr. James Arthur Glasgow and the late Mrs. Emma Wilson Glasgow.

She was a member of Old Beaverdam Baptist Church and the Women’s Home Aid Society Lodge No. 38.

Her husband John Swittenberg and her daughter Cynthia Samuel and a grandson, Mark Thompson, predeceased her.

Those who celebrate her life and cherish fond memories include two sons John Henry Swittenberg of Columbia, Jonathan Ray Swittenberg of Newberry; five grandchildren, Vontresa (Tracy) Samuel of Columbia, Niesha Samuel of Newberry, Angela Richardson, Christopher Daniel Swittenberg, all of Newberry and Jonathan Ray Swittenberg Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Amaria Weldon and Chauncy Hardick of Newberry; three sisters, Mrs. Luecerease Elmore of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Dorothy Reid of Philadelphia, Pa., Mrs. Cleathie Mae Rikard of Newberry; one aunt, Mrs. Hannah W. Suber of Newberry and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a devoted niece Ms. Anna Bell Glasgow of Philadelphia, Pa. and a son-in-law Lawson Samuel of Newberry and loving friends.

Funeral service and burial will be held Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Old Beaverdam Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.
