NEWBERY — Lurleen Halfacre Eargle, 92, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012, at Saluda Nursing Center.

Born on July 23, 1920, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Crenshaw B. and Essie Wilson Halfacre. She was a valedictorian graduate of St. Philip’s School and attended Newberry College. Mrs. Eargle was a member of Colony Lutheran Church and was employed with Shawnee Manufacturing Company and Damon Manufacturing Company.

She is survived by a son, The Reverend Andrew David Eargle (wife, Janie Mayer Eargle) of Newberry; grandchildren, David Alan Eargle (wife, Sarah Jo Eargle) of Prosperity and Dee Ann Tickner (husband, Dave Tickner) of Fincastle, Va.; great-grandchildren, Alana and Julia Eargle and Colin and Gabriella Tickner.

Mrs. Eargle was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Willie A. Eargle, a brother, Grady Lee Halfacre and a sister, Marian Halfacre Ruff.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Colony Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jerry Trantham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Colony Lutheran Church, 48 Colony Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.

Active pallbearers will be Leonard Halfacre, Phillip Epps, Mike Swygert, Vernon Hawkins, Simpson Eargle and John Halfacre

Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses and staff of Saluda Nursing Center.

McSwain-Evans Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
