NEWBERRY — Muriel Swygert Wicker, 93, formerly of 160 Willie Wicker Road, Newberry, widow of George W. Wicker, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012 at White Oak Manor, Newberry.

Mrs. Wicker was born on May 31, 1919 in Leesville, a daughter of the late William and Mary Caughman Swygert.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a member of St. Philip’s Lutheran Church, the Joy Fellowship Class and the Women’s Missionary Society. Mrs. Wicker retired from the J.P. Stevens Company, Whitmire Plant.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Kay C. Wicker of Newberry; grandchildren, Donna Wicker and Wendy and Chris White both of Newberry; great-grandchildren, Landon and Reagen White and Colton Wicker; a niece and three nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Ray Wicker and an infant daughter.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Terry Amick. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Wendy and Chris White, 163 Willie Wicker Rd, Newberry, and received friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.Tuesday, Oct. 23 at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry.

Active pallbearers will be Chris White, Paul Shealy, Alan Smith, A.P. Smith, Virgil Smith, and Nathan Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Joy Fellowship Class, Dr. John Thompson, Irene Smith, Frances Wicker, Mavis Dowd and Bobbie Jewel Smith.

Memorials are suggested to St. Philip’s Lutheran Church Family Life Center, 2641 St. Philip’s Church Road, Newberry, SC 29108.
