GREENEVILLE, TENN. — Newberry will look to regain its offensive mojo against a team the Wolves have had plenty of success against recently as they take on Tusculum Saturday in Greeneville, Tenn. at 1:30 p.m.

In 2010, two players set nearly every single-game passing and receiving record book in school, state and conference history and in 2011, the Wolves set a school record for rushing yardage against the Pioneers.

QB W.T. Murden will lead an offense which will look to pick apart the Pioneers, who give up 496 yards and 34 points per game on defense.

Murden is ranked fourth in the league in total offense (248.14 ypg) and passing efficiency (126.33). He averages 220.1 yards per game and has the best TD/INT ratio in the league at 13 to 5 (plus 8). He was also the Wolves’ leading rusher against Wingate.

WR Corey Washington ranks fourth in the conference with 84.7 receiving yards per game and is tied for third in the league with five touchdown catches. He also threw a 36-yard touchdown pass on a trick play in the Wingate game.

Jason Livingston has made a full return from an injury and led the Wolves with seven catches for 62 yards against Wingate.

The Wolves will also look to re-establish the running game with the return of a number of running backs.

With Tusculum’s air attack, the Newberry defense - which leads the conference in interceptions with 11 - will be on full alert. CB Brian Spencer is still tied for the conference lead with four picks, while LB Apollo Stretch and S Lance Richardson each have two interceptions to their credit. Stretch is the team leader with 76 return yards on interceptions, while Spencer returned one for a touchdown.

There has been at least one return score in the Newberry/Tusculum game for the last six seasons, which has been quite important as six of the last eight games have been decided by seven points or less.

Stretch is Newberry’s defensive leader with 64 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, a sack, two interceptions a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Joe Smith blocked his second PAT of the season in the Wingate game.

Kyle Mackey is one of three SAC regular kickers without a missed PAT

JoJo Morris averages 40.1 yds per punt (third in SAC), with 17 inside the opponents’ 20.

The Pioneers are 2-5 for the season and 1-2 in the SAC, while the Wolves are 4-3 and 2-2 in SAC play.
