MARS HILL, N.C. — The No. 19 Mars Hill Lions proved too much for the Newberry men’s soccer team as the Wolves fell 4-0 on the road Friday.
Newberry (3-8-1, 0-6-1 SAC) was only able to take two shots in the opening period, while Mars Hill (11-2, 6-1 SAC) managed 12 shots and saw three find their way past Newberry junior goalkeeper Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land).
Stephen Bivens opened the scoring for Mars Hill in the 16th minute when he redirected a free kick. The 27th minute saw Shadi Harb place a free kick in the upper 90 to put the Lions ahead 2-0.
The third goal came a minute later when Alex Mullen scored in the 28th. Newberry surrendered a 63rd minute goal to Felipe Ferraro on a Mars Hill breakaway.
Sweatt recorded three saves, while junior Stephen Harvey (Kingston, Jamaica) and senior Kofi Kufuor (Accra, Ghana) each recorded three shots.
Newberry next plays at home on Wednesday in non-conference action as St. Andrews visits the Wolves at 3 p.m.
