NEWBERRY — While students are already celebrating homecoming activities at Newberry College, alumni and the community are invited to a host of weekend activities.

The events will kick off on Friday with a fireworks display that will start at 9 p.m. on the college campus.

On Saturday runners will hit the streets for the Fourth Annual Homecoming 5K Run and Walk.

The run will be along College, Main, Glenn and Evans streets and while streets may not be blocked there may be delays. The cost is $25 in advance and $30 at the start line.

Also starting at 9 a.m. the alumni will have a tent where tickets for the football game, luncheon, programs, T-shirts and other items will be sold to fans and alumni.

At 1 p.m. there will be a volleyball match, a time to meet the baseball team, and a concert by the college choirs.

The homecoming parade will start at 2 p.m. on College Street at Lindsay Furniture and go to the front entrance of the college near Pope Street.

The parade will not close traffic on college but will be more like a funeral escort.

The highlight of the weekend will likely be the 4 p.m. homecoming game between Newberry and Wingate.

During the game the homecoming queen will be crowned.

See the schedule of events for more details of other events that will be held to celebrate the Newberry College homecoming.
